Bulawayo – June 2023

In 2023 Operation Florian completed a two week intensive training programme in Bulawayo, with over 120 students attending training per day. This equates to over 8,000 training hours.

Montenegro – May 2023

On May 7th, an Operation Florian team drove a Volvo fire appliance to Montenegro. The team also conducted a range of training sessions including appliance maintenance, RTC, hose handling and more.

Cape Verde – March 2023

A team of volunteers flew out to Cape Verde to deliver familiarisation training on the fire appliance along with refresher courses in road traffic collisions, breathing apparatus and first aid training.

Montenegro – March 2022

Containers journey from Lancashire to Africa – Bulawayo Zimbabwe

Operation Florian has been working with Fire and Ambulance Brigades throughout Zimbabwe for a number of years. This particular project was to load a 20ft container in the UK and transport/ship to Bulawayo.

Cape Verde – November 2019

25 volunteer fire fighters were provided with donated equipment which included BA, PPE and Road Traffic Collision (RTC) sets. The group received 6 full days training on road traffic collisions and breathing apparatus procedures delivered by the Operation Florian team.

Zimbabwe – Bulawayo March 2019

This was the tenth year of this partnership with Operation Florian personnel in Bulawayo. The aim is to help provide fire equipment and training to the Bulawayo Fire and Ambulance Service and neighbouring Fire Brigades. On this mission we have six students from UCLAN assisting the Operation Florian team. This is a vital tool in developing these individuals as potential professionals in the field of “Fire”.

Macedonia – One Day Workshop November 2016

Following the first joint training sessions to Macedonian emergency services developing an understanding of how the UK JESIP approach of joint working at road traffic collisions improves response, a team from Operation Florian returned to deliver a one day workshop.

Operation Florian members, Allan Henson and Steve Jordan, undertook a successful review visit to Montenegro after receiving an invitation from Assistant Chief Officer Cadjenović, Andrija, the new City of Podgorica Fire Chief.

Lebanon – August 2016

Operation Florian was invited by Save the Children to work in Lebanon for 3 weeks in August 2016 to undertake a fire risk reduction project in several informal settlements to reduce fire risks for Syrian refugees after a series of fatal fires.

The charity started working in Zimbabwe in 2011 and from then the partnerships have grown from strength to strength. The aim is to provide fire equipment and training to the Harare Fire and Ambulance Service.

Macedonia – May 2015

The Operation Florian project team in Macedonia continue to build incrementally on the specialist fire behaviour skills established with the delivery of a further phase of the project in May 2015 which involved piloting tactical ventilation firefighting training in partnership with the Municipality of Tetovo.

Zimbabwe – Bulawayo March 2015

This project aim was to build on the success of previous phases, continuing to improve training standards and ensure the effective utilisation of donated equipment and vehicles. Students from the University of Central Lancashire were sponsored to join the mission and supported the training by shadowing experienced UK volunteer trainers. They also took part in activities, such as, community fire safety campaigns and visits.

In early November 2014 Operation Florian went to carry out a fire needs assessment at refugee camps on the Thai/Burma border at the request of the Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand (CCSDPT).

Zimbabwe – Bulawayo 2014

On the 23/05/14, a team of 15 Operation Florian members set off on a mission for Bulawayo Zimbabwe. This Phase 4 Mission in Bulawayo was the result of the success of Phase 1, 2, and 3 training achievements and the positive effect of the donated equipment and fire appliances.

Kenya – Dadaab March 2014

In March 2014, Operation Florian deployed a specialist team to the UNHCR refugee camp in Dadaab, northern Kenya to conduct a fire needs assessment of the fire management systems and framework within the camps. The objective was to improve response and identify more effective prevention and preparedness measures.

Operation Florian was approached in early 2012 for assistance in the Karoo Region, Western Cape. This request came about due to the work that Operation Florian had done in Kosovo.

Bulawayo – Zimbabwe Phase 1 – 2011

In 2009 Operation Florian was approached by Shephard Ndlovu to look at providing vehicles, equipment and training for the City of Bulawayo. Negotiations then took place over two years between Operation Florian and Bulawayo to develop a project.

Polski Trambesh region, Bulgaria 2010

The project to the Veliko Tarnovo region of Bulgaria was many months in planning and came about after Operation Florian received a letter from the Station Commander of one of the fire stations in the region requesting help from the charity.

Macedonia – May 2008

In May this 2008 the Operation Florian project team successfully delivered its first project in Macedonia.  A team consisting membership from Grampian, FRS, Suffolk FRS, Greater Manchester FRS, North Wales FRS, Lancs FRS, East Sussex FRS and Northamptonshire FRS delivered a project which was worked in three regions on the country simultaneously.

Belarus – Borisov Region August 2005

Operation Florian were requested by UK charity “Belarus Aid” to carry out a scoping visit to the Borisov Region in Belarus to see if they could assist in the donation of fire service equipment and PPE. Tony Burscough from Operation Florian and Paul Weepmon from Belarus Aid carried out the visit in August 2005.

Bosnia and Herzegovina – Soldiers to Saviours Phase One – 2002

On the 8 October 2002 a team of Volunteer Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service Personnel set off for Neum in Bosnia and Herzegovina to set up a Fire Service Training Camp.
